Winter Florals

"It was a happy thought to bring
To the dark season’s frost and rime,
This painted memory of spring
This dream of summer-time"
~ John Greenleaf Whittier

Florals don't have to be worn exclusively in Spring and Summer, and it has been such a delight to see the catwalks awash with dark, moody floral prints throughout the Autumn/Winter season. Usually set against backgrounds of black or navy, Winter florals fall somewhere between girly charm, and gothic glam.

I'm not usually quite so matchy-matchy with my clothes, but I couldn't resist this terrific two-piece by New York based label W118 by Walter Baker. Famed for designing versatile basics with a high-fashion twist, they have taken a softer approach to the trend, with flowery silks and soft silhouettes.

This cool two-piece is covered in brightly coloured blooms set against a dark, black background; the crepe de chine trousers are high waisted, with an elasticated waist, a wide-leg fit, and cropped length. They have slant pockets to the front, and you all know how much I love a pocket! Paired with the matching cold-shoulder, cropped length top, this is a dramatic and edgy look.

A simple pair of nude shoes were the finishing touch to an outfit that beautifully shows how dark florals can be the perfect remedy for the gloomy, winter weather that will soon be upon us.
